NZ Māori Constitutional Review
At the 2012 triennial hui in Rotorua on 23/24 June, the Council agreed to appoint a body to complete an outline for a statute to revise the Council’s constitution for consideration by the full Council. On 18 July, Council co-chairs met with the Minister of Māori Affairs to discuss planned government consultation on proposed changes to the Māori Community Development Act. The Minister has agreed that consultation on restructuring the New Zealand Māori Council should not proceed until the Council has developed a position on its future. NZMC Executive will discuss this issue at its next meeting on 20 August and prepare a recommendation for the next Council meeting on 15/16 September in Auckland.
